Fine Art Editing Berlin
Mein Beruf: Film-Editor

My familiy background: my personal background is rooted in my family and they were rooted in the early years of german expressionistic films. My fahter, Heinz Caloue (writer and director), teached me at a 16 & 35 mm Steenbeck- editing table with filmmaterial form Slapstickartists like Pat & Pattachon, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel und Hardy and many more from this great comedians in there times with talkie and silent movie. We worked for german Television ZDF in firm order of Leo Kirch.
Fine Art Editing: I edit your film in a posthouse as well in my Fine Art Editlab here in Cologne. This location in Cologne in a very old Church basicly features – also because of its possibility for walk on the coast of the rhine – this kind of energy which we need for specially big films. There is such a big amount of material in quantity and quality, in form and content. Also physically. We can form it logistic and artistic in this calm atmosphere in a good manner. My editsuite in a 2000 old Tower is a inspiring place for creative people who would like working concentrated and intensive surrounded with this kind of energy. My point of interest is a well-thought-out project with a deep draft in it`s view. If you would like a titleanimation and package and graphic-design: the small fine artdepartment from the artist Pierra Kayser is also in my space.
Editingbasics: filmediting is a essential creativ element in the arrangement and composition of a film. One call it also the unvisible art. This profession is a result from early years in film business: filmpionier Edwin S. Porter who created in 1903 the first realistic storytelling film “the big railwayrape”, invented it into filmhistory first.
Action inside: editing the film out of my hand usually starts – after an extended meeting with producer and director – with the creation of a project, the structuring of the recorded audio and visual material, and all audio-visual sources. Then is following an intensive material screening, selection and arrangement of the material image, voice, sound and music levels and the script links. Then I design the first subsequences, which are then combined in a further step towards a dramatic first rough cut. After discussions with director, producer and other key people we will in quite a long stretch of time deal intensively with the completion of film material and its statements. It is always a great feeling after all have looked for so long time – focused on a project – to raise our eyes and give the movie free for promotion and the broadcasting or the cinema screenings.
This is my new and updated presentation from my life with filmmaking and editing. I spend my whole life to this topic, so you can imagine, that I love this job. I hope, that you outside there are interested in filmmaking and editing. Hopefully you write some ideas, questions or suggestions in this virtual place. Look to my qualifications and my technical equipment.
Thanks to you all.

The logo is inspired from my job – of course – with filmmaterial. The point is that a closing from my eye has a similar impact as cutting in film: you expect a logically picture as connection to that, what was before. The logo was made in the style of an eye, a scissor ( indead i started with filmbusiness with a steenbeck flatbatediting – Schneidetisch) and eyelids.
